Welcome to the official website of the IndabaX Malawi 2024 Symposium on the theme “Trends in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Malawi”. This dynamic event is set to take place in the vibrant city of Blantyre, Malawi on August 23 – 24th 2024. The two day gathering hopes to bring together a diverse group of professionals, researchers and thought leaders in Malawi and around the globe to explore the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) and its potential impact on the development of Malawi.

Since 2019, our mission has been to strengthen and help grow the community in ML and AI in Malawi, to create a space that fosters collaboration, innovation and knowledge exchange.

We are proudly an IndabaX chapter of the Deep Learning Indaba.

Call for Papers

All submissions accepted for the symposium will appear in the symposium abstract book and invited for submission to a special journal edition. Each submission will receive a unique DOI.

Call for papers

Papers on the following themes (not exhaustive) are invited:

AI/ ML; Big Data; Ethics and Legislation, NLP, Cloud Computing and Data Centers, Industrial applications, Generative AI, Online Fraud detection, AI Gaming, IoT, Robotics, AI in Healthcare, AI in Agriculture, AI for Conservation, AI and Climate, Datasets development, benchmarking etc.

Abstract Submission Open: 20 May 2024
First Abstract Submission Deadline: CLOSED 15 July 2024
Late submissions may be considered if received until: 15th August 2024

Full Paper / Presentation Submission: 15 August 2024

Abstract submissions are a requirement for full paper submissions. Abstracts should have a maximum of 350 words and can be submitted via the link below. We will review abstracts and respond with acceptance on an ongoing basis. Selected abstracts will be invited for presentation at the event and for full paper submission in a special edition of the Malawi Journal of Applied Sciences and Innovation (MJASI) or an alternative journal to be confirmed soon.

Full papers should be maximum 6 pages including references.

Call for Workshops

Deadline 2 August 2024
Workshops provide a structured setting for the discussion of specialized technical topics. All members of the community are invited to submit workshop proposals for review. We encourage several forms of workshops:

• Classical workshops that focus on a particular research area: e.g. GIS, NLP or ML applications, statistics for ML etc.
• Workshops that focus on emerging topics and applications, or on open research questions and challenges.
• Cross-discipline workshops that foster exchange of ideas between groups that are unaware of each other’s research.
• Miscellaneous topics of interest to the AI/ML community.

Call for sponsorship

Simply put, without our generous sponsors, IndabaX Malawi would not be affordable to the vast majority of the community, who are either students or early career. A MWK 100,000 ticket provides two full days for attendees to gain insight from our speakers, network with others, and contribute to the AI/ML community. By donating to IndabaX Malawi you further the project’s mission to democratize and strenghten the technological space in Malawi.
